ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Whenever a violation of an Ordinance occurs or is alleged to have occurred, the Code Enforcement Officer shall record and investigate such complaint and take such action as is provided by the Ordinance. Complaints may be filed in writing or verbally.

Upon investigating a complaint of possible violation, and determination of violation of the Ordinance, the Code Enforcement Officer shall give written notice of his determination and order the property owner to abate the violation. This notice shall be served in person, by regular mail, or by an officer authorized to serve a warrant.

The Code Enforcement Officer shall keep a written record of all investigations, the persons notified of violation, any responses received, and final disposition of the case.

The Code Enforcement Officer is authorized to file a complaint to the Fairfield County Magistrate's Office as allowed under Section 9-7 Penalties for Violation, Fairfield County Zoning Ordinance(Ordinance 498); Article IX Penalties ,Fairfield County Public Ordinance (Ordinance 541); as well as allowed by any other County Ordinance as assigned for enforcement. The Code Enforcement Officer shall be present at any and all Court Proceedings as required.

In addition, the Code Enforcement may in accord with the provisions of Section 56-7-80 of the South Carolina Code of Laws 1976, as amended, issue an ordinance summons, or institute injunction, mandamus, or take any other appropriate actions or proceedings required to enforce these Ordinances.

In case of appeal under Section 9-8 Right of Appeal, Fairfield County Zoning Ordinance(Ordinance 498); Article VIII Appeal, Fairfield County Public Ordinance(Ordinance 541) the Code Enforcement Officer shall transmit to the Fairfield County Board of Zoning Appeals all papers constituting the record upon which appeal was taken. The Code Enforcement Officer shall be present at the Board of Zoning Appeals to present his case and answer questions if needed.

The Code Enforcement Officer shall interpret code requirements to owners and general public.

The Code Enforcement Officer shall answers all inquiries relating to Code Enforcement of the Ordinances.

Performs general administrative work, including but not limited to attending meetings and hearings, preparing repots and correspondence, entering computer data, copying and filing documents, reviewing mail, etc.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma and some public relations experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and experience. Must be able to obtain law enforcement certification through the SC Criminal Justice Academy.

Must have a valid SC Driver's License and clear criminal history.

SCHEDULE/HOURS:

Monday - Friday (9:00 - 5:00) 35 hours/week
