On Wednesday, January 31st, 2024 at a Special Called meeting, Fairfield County Council voted 7-0 in favor of naming Clay Killian the Interim County Administrator. Killian brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, having worked with county governments for 40 years. After an extensive career working with Richland County, the United Way of the Midlands, York County, Fairfield County and Aiken County, Killian joined Parker Poe Consulting as a Principal, in July 2023.
Killian previously served as County Administrator for Fairfield County from mid-2000 to October 2001. Even though 23 years have passed since being in Fairfield County, Killian sees the potential for growth and success for the county, “I think the County is well-positioned for significant growth. Interstate 77 and being between the metro areas of Columbia and Charlotte/Rock Hill should make the County an attractive place for businesses to locate here.” This will not happen overnight; a lot of time and planning will go into making Fairfield County realize this untapped potential, “Making the rights moves and decisions to make it happen will be important.”
Killian will start in his role as Interim County Administrator on Monday, February 5th, 2024 and is looking forward to assessing the needs of Fairfield County. “Meeting the staff and elected officials and simply listening to the issues and challenges they are facing so we can start working on them,” on his initial goals and focus coming into this position.
Killian holds two degrees: A Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Masters in Public Administration, both from the University of South Carolina.
