Today, July 11, 2024, the South Carolina Department of Commerce announced Palmetto Corp's expansion into Fairfield County, marking a significant development for the region. This expansion entails a $15.7 million investment by Palmetto Corp, which will result in the creation of 79 new jobs. The company will be located at 5471 State Highway 34 E, Ridgeway, SC 29130, with plans to commence operations in January 2025.

Palmetto Corporation, a family-owned and operated business founded in Conway in 1987, specializes in paving and site development solutions. Known for their 'family-oriented culture,' Palmetto Corp is committed to delivering top-tier services while prioritizing safety and adaptability. They currently operate six locations across South Carolina, employing over 1,000 people statewide.

Beyond their core operations, Palmetto Corp plays a crucial role in South Carolina's economy by ensuring timely asphalt delivery and reducing project lead times. They also focus on sustainability, recycling asphalt during road repaving to minimize waste. Palmetto Corp is committed to keeping their surroundings clean, by monitoring their stack emissions daily. They also monitor their truck activity to keep down all the excessive noise. Shawn Godwin, Chief Executive Officer, emphasized their core value of accountability. He says that they remain accountable not just to the company and customers but also to the communities that they work in. Fairfield County Interim Administrator Clay Killian says, “We welcome Palmetto Corporation to Fairfield County and look forward to a long and prosperous partnership with this outstanding company.  We appreciate the company’s confidence in our community in making this major investment and in the creation of new jobs for our citizens.”

Palmetto Corp's expansion initiatives are not just about business growth; they are deeply rooted in community engagement. They actively contribute to local economies by hiring locally, supporting sports teams and schools through donations, and offering educational opportunities such as field trips to schools to introduce students to potential careers in their industry. Their commitment to nurturing talent is reflected in their promote-from-within culture, which values long-term employee loyalty and hard work.

Palmetto Corp's expansion into Fairfield County underscores their dedication to both business excellence and community enrichment across South Carolina. “As a critical next step in our growth plan, we are thrilled to announce the establishment of our new asphalt plant in Fairfield County. This strategic location will enhance our ability to serve the local community, support regional infrastructure projects, and attract top local talent. Our continued growth underscores the importance of strong partnerships and our commitment to providing top-quality construction services throughout South Carolina”, says Palmetto Corporation Chief Growth Officer Eric Faulk.

Secretary of Commerce, Harry M. Lightsey III says, “We are proud that Palmetto Corporation continues to do business in our state. The company’s decision to establish a seventh plant in South Carolina is another example of businesses finding success from launch to legacy, and we congratulate the company on its success.” Palmetto Corp’s expansion is so important to South Carolina because it reinforces South Carolina’s new Launch to Legacy initiative. By starting in and growing in South Carolina they stand true to the three core elements: “when you invest in South Carolina, you grow”, “South Carolina is built for the new economy”, and “South Carolina is the new home and headquarters of American Innovation”.
