Older Americans Month Proclamation May 2024
May is Older Americans Month. At the May 13th, 2024 Fairfield County Council Meeting, County Council issued a Proclamation that May 2024 be recognized as Older Americans Month in Fairfield County. The Proclamation was presented to the Fairfield County Council on Aging, Inc. so that, "We are reminded this month and every day to appreciate the older adults who made and continue to make valuable contributions to Fairfield County and beyond," quote from the Proclamation.
Older Americans Month was started by President John F. Kennedy and the National Council of Senior Citizens, in 1963. They originally designated May as Senior Citizen Month; the name was later changed to Older Americans Month.
